General information on cookies
Cookies are short text files (letters and/or numbers) allowing the web server to store information on the client (the user’s web browser) to be reused while visiting the website (session cookies) or afterwards, even after a number of days (persistent or functionality cookies). Cookies are stored, according to the user’s preferences, by the individual browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone).
Cookies are generally used to improve the user’s browsing experience. They are used for example to:
- enable and optimise the website’s operation and the browsing of individual pages
- store user name and browsing preferences
- improve users’ browsing experience, for example by keeping the connection to a page or reserved area active, avoiding the need to repeatedly enter the user name and password
- register the use of the site by the users, to improve browsing and the site’s services
- propose targeted advertising content based on registered interests and user behaviour during browsing
Cookies may be categorised as follows:
- Technical cookies
- Browsing or session cookies
- Cookie analytics (first party – managed by the site)
- Persistent or functionality cookies
- Profiling cookies
- Third-party cookies
Technical cookies can be used without the user’s consent, as without them some operations could not be performed or would be more complex and/or less secure. Analytical cookies are also included in this case, but only if they are first-party cookies (stored on the site that generated them, even if produced through third-party plug-ins).
Otherwise, if cookies are used for other purposes, for example for behaviour analysis and sending personalised promo-advertising messages (so-called profiling cookies), the user’s consent is required.
Consent is also necessary for the use of third-party cookies (created by domains outside the site and whose data are stored by the third party), unless they are used only by the Owner to obtain aggregated information on the number of users and how they visit the site (e.g. Analytics cookies of Google services with anonymous IP).
Finally, social network specific cookies may be enabled, which allow you to interact with your social profile and share content. When a page contains this command, a direct link to the selected Social Network is established.
The use of these technologies is regulated by the privacy policies of the third-party companies and not by the Site Owner, who merely acts as a technical intermediary.
Cookies that require consent to be installed are accepted by clicking within a banner presenting the different categories of cookies in use on the site and that the user can select or not freely. Technical cookies that do not require consent are an exception and are installed automatically after accessing the site or service.
On a GDPR compliant site, the user will find a special function to manage cookies and recall the banner through which consent has been given. They therefore can be changed at any time.
Cookies can be completely deactivated by your browser using the cookies feature provided in most browsers. You should be aware, however, that if you disable cookies some of the features of the site may not be utilisable. Links to the information provided by the major browsers on disabling and managing cookies is provided below.
This Site uses technical session cookies and persistent cookies. These are cookies, directly generated by this site, used to manage the user interface (e.g. to record the preferences expressed by the user, such as language, currency, page display format, connection area), for the improved usability of the site and its audio-visual content and for the proper functioning of the connection (e.g. addressing the user’s requests between several servers appropriately).
The site also uses some third-party analytical and profiling cookies, for which you can change or withdraw your consent at any time (full list available below).
The Google Analytics service, provided by Google Inc., has been activated to track and examine the use of this website and to compile reports and share them with other services developed by Google.
This integration of Google Analytics makes the IP address anonymous. Anonymity works by abbreviating user’s IP addresses within the borders of European Union Member States or other signatory countries in the European Economic Area. The IP address will be sent to Google’s servers and abbreviated within the United States only in exceptional cases.
The user may selectively disable Google Analytics by installing on their browser the opt-out component provided by Google. To disable Google Analytics action, please refer to the link below https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
The site provides for in some of its sections (blogs, news, etc..) the use of specific functions to share content on your social media profile (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc..). The functionality is supported by a specific “Share This” plugin that links with the social media platform used.
The management of content and cookies within social media networks is governed by the privacy policies of the third-party companies and not by the owner of this site, which is limited to acting as a technical intermediary.
